About Us

The Newfoundland and Labrador Anti-Poverty Coalition is a unified voice on poverty reduction.

Our members consist of community organizations that work across various areas. These areas include improving access to housing, childcare, and food, and advancing social and economic justice. Every day, we see the devastating impacts of poverty on our communities.

Although we work to address different problems, we see one common thread running through them: poverty. Newfoundland and Labrador is in a poverty crisis.

The NL Anti-Poverty Coalition is committed to poverty reduction because the need is clear and our response is necessary. But we cannot do this work alone.

Policy tools exist that can make real differences in people’s lives. Our province can choose bold action to reduce poverty and create conditions where everyone can thrive.

The NL Anti-Poverty Coalition is committed to moving our province towards a more just and equitable future.

We will:

  • advocate for effective policy changes

  • gather and share data so we can understand the problem and its solutions better

  • consult with and learn from people with Lived Expertise

  • shift the narrative about poverty to focus on it as a policy failure with devastating impacts

The Newfoundland and Labrador Anti-Poverty Coalition receives administrative and communications support from Food First NL through funding from the Definity Foundation.
